Education Programs Fall Semester 2010
The Steamboat Symphony Orchestra offers strings education programs for children, teens and adults.
For the 2010-11 season, SSO is proud to offer these educational programs to the Yampa Valley Community:
Youth Ensemble – For youth musicians who are at the level of Suzuki Book 2 or equivalent. Instruments include violin, viola, cello, bass. Other instruments may be included by permission of the director. Bonnie Murray is the director of the Youth Ensemble.
Steamboat String Ensemble – For teen and adult musicians at intermediate to advanced levels. Instruments include violin, viola, cello, bass. Teresa Steffen Greenlee is the director of the Steamboat String Ensemble.
Cello Choir – For teen and adult Cellists at intermediate to advanced levels. Bruce Dean is the director of the Cello Choir.
CONCERT - The three groups will perform in a combined concert Wednesday, December 1 at the Steamboat Springs Community Center at 7 PM. Ernest Richardson, Music Director of the Steamboat Springs Orchestra, will conduct. All participants in the education programs are expected to perform in the Concert.

Youth Ensemble Program
• For youth in Suzuki Book 2 or higher
• Sessions are 9 weeks (Fall, Winter)
• Monday rehearsals 4:45–6:15 PM will be held in The High School Band Room
• Applications for scholarships due September 10
• Registration & tuition payment due September 27
• Tuition is $150/ 9 Week Session
• Rehearsals begin October 4
• Concert is Wednesday, December 1
About the Youth Ensemble Director
Ms. Murray is the principal 2nd Violinist with the Steamboat Symphony Orchestra. She performs regularly as a member of the Steamboat Strings Quartet. As a public school orchestra teacher, she has taught elementary, middle, and high school orchestra
Steamboat Strings Ensemble
• For teens and adults at intermediate to advanced levels
• Sessions are 7 weeks, (Fall, Winter)
• Monday rehearsals 6:30-8:30 PM will be held in The High School Band Room
• Applications for youth scholarships due September 10
• Registration and tuition payment due October 11
• Tuition is $150/ 7 Week Session
• Rehearsals begin October 18
• Concert is Wednesday, December 1
About the Steamboat String Ensemble Director
Ms. Steffen Greenlee is the Concertmaster and principal 1st Violinist for the Steamboat Symphony Orchestra. She was the founding director of the Steamboat Springs Youth Orchestra and Ensemble Program, and performs regularly as a member of the Steamboat String Quartet.
Cello Choir
• For teen and adult cellists at an intermediate level
• Sessions are 4 weeks, (Fall, Winter)
• Monday rehearsals 6:30-7:30 PM will be held in The High School Band Room
• Applications for youth scholarships due September 10
• Registration and tuition payment due September 13
• Tuition is $105/ 4 Week Session
• First rehearsal is September 20
• Concert is Wednesday, December 1
About the Cello Choir Director
Bruce Dean is a computer programmer. He was briefly a music major at the University of North Carolina before switching to math. He teaches several young 'cellists and plays in the Steamboat Symphony Orchestra and the Steamboat Piano Trio. Bruce also plays the mandolin and Ultimate Frisbee whenever he can.
Youth Scholarships Scholarships for a SSO Education Program are available for youth under age 20 years. A Scholarship Application should be submitted to SSO for each session by the scholarship deadline date. A Registration Form should also be completed by the registration deadline date. Deadline dates are on the Scholarship Application and on this web site. Scholarship awards are based on financial need. Families will be advised of awards before the Program start.
